Shameful

First I would like to thank you for all your supportive comments on my last post and apologise for not replying.  It has been a rollercoaster of a week for the family as my son has been back into the hospital again for further surgery.  He is now staying with us again while he recovers, but he really has been through the mill and it is going to take a while before he is fit enough to do much.  The treatment he received was excellent, his surgeon came in first thing Saturday morning to operate on him, the nurses and doctors were very professional but the food and cleanliness of the hospital left much to be desired.  It has been privatised and the firm now responsible for catering and cleaning should be ashamed of themselves.  It has made me even more determined to fight privatisation of the NHS if this is what we can expect.  Overflowing clinical waste bins and out of date food.  Awful.  Thankfully he is here with us now and getting some home cooked food.

When people ask 'if you had one wish what would it be' I would wish for a cure for Crohns Disease, it is such an awful illness. He has been in and out of hospitals since he was 14, and I have to say we are both sick of the sight of the bloody place, but are very grateful for the NHS.  Anyway I'm rambling, and tired so I'm off to make a cuppa before sorting out the next lot of tablets to take up to him.

I hope you are all keeping well, health really is the most precious gift any of us could have.

Chickpea xx

    1. Thankfully the staff were wonderful, they need to get rid of the firm they have contracted for cleaning and catering.

  8. As I am reading your post they are talking about Crohn's Disease on the local news program.
I hope he will feel better soon.
Don't like hearing about the dirty hospital. That makes me so angry.
Take it easy and take care of your son and yourself.

    1. What a coincidence! There is no need for it, it is since privatisation

  9. Sending healing thoughts your way, hope your son feels better soon. Sadly I have a lot of dealings with the hospitals locally due to my parents and husband. Whilst the medical care is usually good, the food and hygiene leave a lot to be desired. I am truly thankful for the NHS but improvements certainly need to be made. Take care.

    1. Thank you. So it is not just in Cornwall then, I wonder if your hospitals have the same firm.

  12. I'm so sorry your son has been unwell. I hope he recovers in record time. As the parent of a child with chronic medical conditions, I know the toll it can take on both the patient and the parent. I think in some ways it is even harder when our children are adults, because so much of what happens is out of our control. Hugs to you...

    1. Yes I think you are right Kristie, we have to respect their independence while really wanting to 'mother' them.

    1. Really no need for it, the company are obviously cutting corners and saving money instead of providing a good service.

  14. I too can identify with being parent to a sick child/adult. As kriskieinbc says it becomes even more difficult when they are adults.
The cleanliness of hospitals leaves much to be desired. Bring back matrons,in house cleaners attached to particular wards so that they are answerable directly if standards slip and sisters who are responsible for the whole ethos of their ward not just form fillers in.
I do hope your son is beginning to show signs of improvement. That will relieve your stress and then maybe you will feel less tired.
Try to let everything else go.
The land and decorating, restoration projects can wait, spend this precious time with your son and family.
We nearly lost one of our sons and since then nothing gets in the way of spending time with and caring for our family.
Please don't fret or feel guilty about what's not getting done. Sue

    1. Oh my goodness that must have been so scary for you. Everything else was put on hold including work, they know in no uncertain terms that my family come first. Yes I agree, bring everything back in house so that everyone is responsible and accountable.

  15. It's really bizarre isn't it when good nutrition is the basis of healing our hospitals serve up such nutritionally deplete food. I hope your son feels better soon.

  16. I hope that your son will be much improved with a good dose of Mum love and some good food and caring. Please can I ask you to do one thing though, please can you make, or get your son to make, a complaint about these issues as otherwise they will not get resolved. Sorry to sound bossy or on a hobby horse, but I think it is important. What is more important of course is your son and as I said, I really hope that he will be much better soon and that you can all have a good Christmas. Hugs to you all. xx
