Growing up I was passionate about saving whales and seal cubs across the world but I took for granted the local wildlife, they never seemed so interesting. Over the last few years, talented bloggers out there have opened up a whole new world of little creatures to me. I now find myself creeping up on butterflies and I am absolutely blown away by their beauty. I rescue bees and and sit watching my bird feeders hoping to attract many different varieties. I never thought I would take such an interest in tiny little creatures. They are equally as impressive as the whales, you just have to look harder to see them. This new found interest has spurred on our move back out into the country, and changed our lives in a huge way. Who would of thought such tiny little things would bring about such a change.
We have a new home which although it already feels like home needs a lot of work. It is exciting as well as daunting deciding on colours and styles, I don't really want to recreate our old home with my choices but it is scary branching out, trying something new. I know for sure the pink walls everywhere and dreadful tiles will have to go but what do I replace them with? What if I hate the colour/style of the new decor. Think of all the money wasted! Do I take the opportunity to try something completely new or play safe. Decisions decisions.......... Do you always stay with the same style or have you made huge changes in your home?
Our grandchildren came to stay at the weekend, what joy they bring, not only to us but our sons who love being uncles. These little people have completely changed our lives and the whole family dynamics. Apart from having our children, grandchildren have made the biggest difference to our lives. I feel even more passionate about fighting for a world that has beauty and peace for them to grow up in.

What a lovely post! Lots to be grateful for and plenty of wonderful times ahead - after all those decisions and home improvements!
ReplyDeleteLove that first photo.
ReplyDeleteYes, dogs are great to have in your life.
bit disconcerted when my nephew asked - are you sure I haven't been here before, it looks familiar.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, we do have the same furniture across 3 houses.
Keep the decor ideas you love, and change some that left you cold.
Grandchildren are an absolute joy aren't they I adore my two and am excited at the imminent arrival of number three another baby girl. I think I would try not to change everything at once but just let your new place evolve slowly over time. I love the big ball your grandkids are playing with it looks like a massive bubble lol
ReplyDeletePS you're so right about dogs I really miss ours but we've decided not to get another one until my wanderlust is under control and we spend more time at home.
ReplyDeleteThat ball looks fun and I love the photo of the dog with its ears flying! Now that E has gone off to uni, I'm planning a decorating spree. I'm hopeless at choosing colours though and you can guarantee that whatever I like, R doesn't and vice versa! xx
ReplyDeleteGrandchildren are a joy, I love that we are able to be part of their lives. Work a little at a time and your new home will evolve into your dream home.
ReplyDeleteI'm not very brave about decorating. we wanted to paint one wall a sea blue/green and it took months to build up the courage. I love it know though. Good luck with it xxx
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post and seeing all your great photos. Glad all is going well in the new house. x
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to having grandchildren one day. It is definitely worth fighting for a better world for our children and grandchildren! I am having some decisions to make with house decorations, we are having major building work done. My suggestion is to go for white and live with it for a bit until you get 'the calling'. You need to live in a house for a bit until you know what colour suits the lighting and moods of the house. x
ReplyDeleteMaybe reading blogs and watching children have something in common - both let us look at life through new eyes.
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved here 6 years ago, we changed our way of living which was helped by how we decorated our home, it's less of a place to spend hours cleaning and keeping tidy. We are far more relaxed and the house does not get so messy. One of the best things we did was put in hard wood floors everywhere except the bedrooms. Grandchildren are wonderful, so glad to read they give the whole family such fun.
ReplyDeleteBest thing to do with decorating choices is to paint walls with a goodly square of colour, or tack up some wallpaper samples. Look at them for a few days and see how they respond to different light levels. It's surprising how colours that look good in daylight can be all wrong at night. Also, of course, get yourself on to Pinterest, I find it totally inspiring. I'm still looking for our forever home, but cant wait to get decorating and have to stop myself buying stuff for the house we haven't got yet.

Pick a room - maybe a small room - and paint one wall with a color you love. Second bathroom??? Children's/guest room?? And live with it for a while. Add some small splashes of color - soap dish? Cushions?? Don't tile or do anything that can't be changed easily until you're happy with color. Color is the cheapest, easiest & best way to start. Some people paint all walls neutral & then hang big splashes of color in pictures. That's what I love to do.
ReplyDeleteOne year, I framed 12 FROG pictures in black. The frogs were brightly colored poisonous frogs from a large calendar about 18"x 18" & hung them on my beige walls. What a difference!! I draped my beige couch in a brightly colored rainbow afghan & covered the seat cushions in a bright red fabric with colored frogs on it. And I made a duvet cover out of the same fabric for my bedroom. I had red pot holders & a big red pot in the kitchen. It made me so happy to come home to all that color in winter when it was dull & gloomy outside.
Lovely photos of the dogs, I'm sure the right one will come along for you. Just loved seeing the photo of the Comma butterfly, it's a beauty.
ReplyDeleteHey Chickpea,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post. Yes, those little creatures have changed my life too. For the better, I think. So much beauty in the small. And more accessible to a young person. Just outside their back door in fact. I hope that my boys will foster their own interest, and who knows, maybe they will be the generation that gets behind conserving and saving our whales and tigers. And go get that dog!
Have a lovely weekend.

Ah Chickpea, those doggies look real happy. :) Colour now, I am go bold or go home. It took me ages to do the dark grey in our bed room. I was really scared. Bang, done it. Love it. With white blinds and decorative curtains I wonder why I have stuck with beige and white so long.
ReplyDeleteGet some decor magazines, hit pintrest, make your own boards and see what you are attracted to. Do they all have the same theme? are they all the same colour? Do you have some furniture that goes with it? Paint paint paint. Wallpaper is an expensive mistake. Paint and then see if you need wall paper. I am a wall paper phobe.
Good luck. Tester pots are your friends! like they are mine!!! ;)
I'm not sure what my immediate answer would be to your question but I did enjoy your post. I'm looking forward to the first grandchild entering our lives in December.
