Thank you for all the compliments for the blinds yesterday. They really are not that difficult, if I can make them anyone can. I have used calico for lots of other blinds I have made, I love the colour and look of calico, and with a bit of trim they look lovely and are so cheap to make. If they are made with calico they are always double layer and if using a patterned fabric like the one I have just made I always put a plain backing on them. Otherwise I think they are too thin, they don't keep light out so well and you can see the seams. You could also use blackout fabric for the lining if you want. Personally I like to have the a little light coming through in the morning to help me wake up.
I had some trim left over and decided to add a bit of bling to the lamp with the aid of a bit of glue and some pegs. I'm sure there is a better way to do this, but if you don't look too close it looks o.k.
Today I ordered some little bedside cabinets from Ikea. I have been looking in charity shops for some to paint up but they are far too expensive, the ones I have ordered are twenty pounds each. It is a shame that some charity shops are pricing themselves out of the market. I know they need to raise as much money as possible but their pricing has to be sensible.
I was watching the news last night and was humbled by the bravery of the medical staff who were sailing from Falmouth for Sierra Leone to help with the Ebola outbreak. I hope they stay safe.

I felt the same seeing the medics going out. Brave people. The lamp looks great and you are right about Charity shops becoming expensive, although the ones in Romsey are generally not too bad x
ReplyDeleteI feel the same about the medics - such brave people. Enjoy your weekend. x
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many of them are feeling panicky in the face of the enormity of their task and the dangers they face. I wish I was more like them and less of a coward! I'm off to look at your blinds now....xx
