Some days it would just be better and safer to stay in bed. Today was one of those days. I have been back to work and already picked up a cold so have a sore throat ear ache and aching all over. The bearded one was taking his mother up to see the new baby, but of course I didn't want to take my germs up there so stayed home. Instead of taking the opportunity to relax, I decided to make marmalade and get on with the baby quilt. What the hell was I thinking. When I'm not well my brain doesn't work properly, I really can't think straight. Even the most simple task is beyond me, I am a health and safety disaster.
So the morning started with me slicing open my finger on a can I was washing for recycling. Blood everywhere! Really not good when the quilt you are about to work on has a lot of white in it. I went shopping for the ingredients for the marmalade, seville oranges, sugar, apples plus cat food. Got home, I had forgotten the cat food, she was not impressed. Then realised I needed cooking apples not ordinary apple, so had to go back to the shop, see I told you my brain wasn't working. Put the oranges on to cook, and by this time I was exhausted, sore throat headache, so I went to sit in the lounge for five minutes. Wondered back into the kitchen to find the pan had boiled over, put out the flame and the whole kitchen smelt of gas. Oh FFS.
So far I had nearly sliced my finger off (o.k. slight exaggeration) then nearly blew the house up (not an exaggeration). What else could go wrong? They say these things come in threes. I put the quilt away, better be safe than sorry, I didn't want my finger to start bleeding all over it, but couldn't do anything about the marmalade I had to finish it. I carefully followed the instructions, double checking everything. Got to the last bit phew, boil for 15 minutes to reach the setting point, simple. An hour later it was still as runny as water. I gave up, bottled it up and collapsed on the sofa.
I hope you have had a better weekend than me. I will leave you with a photo from Xmas, I think she felt like taking cover today!

As Uncle Mark put it, sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Sounds like you had a "bug" day.

ReplyDeleteOh dear, that is the kind of day when you just need to go to bed and not get up until the next morning. Although in this case I'm glad you didn't or you would have most certainly had that explosion. I hope today is a better one for you, and that you are on the mend from your cold.
