Hands up whose got a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit

As part of my 'Big Declutter"  I decided to have a go at the wardrobe today.  For probably the last 12 months I have been cramming things in there, then they come out crushed and crumpled.  So out they came and I have to admit an awful lot of them don't even fit me anyone.  They have been hanging in there in the hope that one day I will return to that skinny little thing I was a few years ago.  Well, lets be honest......it ain't going to happen.

I didn't just stop at the clothes, there are shoes in there that I haven't worn for years.  I find a pair that are comfortable and wear them all the time, and I mean all the time.  I keep old boots for beach and muddy walks, I have umpteen pairs of flip flops (well it is Cornwall) but as for the rest, usually bought for a specific 'do' that are rarely worn again, they had to go!  Handbags not used for years......gone.  I have three bin bags of things that someone else might as well make use of, and a charity to make some money from.

....and I didn't stop there, the bed was moved, things dragged out from underneath (I wondered where the hot water bottle had gone) and layers of dust vacuumed.  All this on my 'so called' day off!!

Thank you all for your lovely comments about my photos from Godrevy.  I am very lucky to live in such a wonderful place and be able to take photos of the wonderful wildlife, but you really don't have to go far to find natures beautiful sights.  As I sat at my kitchen table looking out the window I was lucky enough to get some photos of visitors to my garden.  They are through a very dirty window and the light isn't great but aren't birds just so beautiful?

I am really looking forward to the spring flowers filling the garden with colour.  The snowdrops are brightening up the garden already,

This plant was given to me by my dad, he loved their scent.  I think it is called Daphne?

The Xmas tree seems to be happy with its new home in the garden.  I am really pleased that it didn't just go for recycling.

As for my cold, I'm taking lots of Vit C and Zinc as instructed by a friend. and also putting Vicks on my feet under socks in bed which I saw on another blog, and steering clear of dairy to help with the blocked nose.  Any other suggestions?

So,  whose going to admit to having a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit anymore?

Welcome to new follower Tamsyn on Bloglovin,

Chickpea xx

  2. I always spread Vicks on my chest but it gums up what ever you are wearing.
Sometimes it is the only way I can breathe.
Or if you can stand it a little Vicks in your nose, not as messy.
Staying away from dairy is a good idea.

    cheers, parsnip

  3. If I have not worn clothes for 12 months then out they go. My shoes are worn till they are very very dead, big feet mean that they are pricey. I know what's under my bed, fabric and yarn, and Christmas decs, all in boxes and labelled.

  5. Have been doing exactly the same as you, why do we store so much of our clothes and shoes that don't fit anymore. Problem is I have got a husband who doesn't like throwing or giving anything away, as he says "you never know when that might come in handy", tomorrow he is out for the day so guess what I will be doing ;-)) while the cat's away the mice do play :-))))) You have the same sort of birds as we have in our garden, could spend all day watching them, and just to make you feel better, my windows are dirty as well. Hope you feel better very soon.

    1. I'm afraid I am a 'you never know when that might come in handy' type of person usually, it's in the genes. I do try very hard to be more ruthless :)

  6. It feels great to have a clothes clear out doesn't it?! It was the first thing I did on my path to a simpler life. I haven't bought a single item of clothing for 6 months either and am hoping to maintain that for a whole 12 months. I really don't need anything else and it's been so liberating too! The birds look lovely and I can smell that daphne from here!!

  7. Good for you, it always feels good to get rid of things you don't want or don't need anymore. I've been working on it lately too and it's nice to have more room in the dresser drawers for things I do like!

  8. Well done on your declutter, thanks for sharing the bird pictures, I love watching the them, now I really must get a better lens for my camera so I can zoom in on them .

    1. Having a good zoom is the only way I can get photos, they even spot me if I get too close to the window

  9. I sorted my wardrobes in 2013, when hubby built our walk in, and I got rid of 12 items in December for my 12 days of Christmas. But I still have about 10 pairs of trousers, all one size smaller, just in case. Stunning photo's.

  13. Hey Chickpea,
You are so right to say that you don't have to go far to see something lovely. I spend an awful lot of time watching the birds from my utility room window. It makes the act of washing, drying, folding and ironing easier to bear And you had a visit from a long tailed tit! I adore them so. I put on lots of weight last year through various women's related stuff, including anemia, and was not able to wear most of my wardrobe. I have been slowly getting back to full strength and eating and exercising mindfully, so that my health and my clothes are a better fit. It's having positive effects, and I am now wearing some of it again. This makes me happy because I am so over clothes shopping. I'd rather buy a plant!
    Have a great week

  16. Me, me ... lot's of clothes that don't fit in my wardrobe. It started with the RA, when I was on steroids and could no longer walk 6 miles a day, but the subsequent chocolate addiction hasn't helped. I'm not ready to let mine go yet though, there are signs that no longer being on the steroids is leading to weight loss, very slow weight loss but weight loss all the same. I'm one jeans size down already. Fingers crossed for more.

    1. Congrats on downsizing your jeans, I put on weight after a combination of bereavement and 2 operations. It's really hard to get back to 'normal' isn't it. I'm hoping with increased fitness I will be able to lose some slowly, but I don't feel the need to get back to the really too skinny me.

  17. Hello my lovely, I have a loft full of clothes and shoes but as I'm not keen on heights I have to rely on Hubby to get them down for me. Have you ever had to send a man for navy peep toe shoes?...........eeek it's a painstaking operation for sure, consequently I have started a new collection downstairs so I don't have to ask him anymore. Luckily I have picked up some brand spanking new bargains for 30p at the local Jumbles x

    1. Hello!! Lovely to hear from you. Haha I don't even own peep toe shoes, lots of boots and flop flops though so it would be, no not those boots, the ones with sole hanging off if the bearded one had to fetch anything!

  18. Well paragon of virtue that I am I destashed my wardorbe last year. It is fab knowing that every pair of jeans in there actually fits without causing four ton of flab to spill over the top. I didn't chuck the others out though... I wasn't that good. They are in a plastic crate up in the loft.... heck there might just be a skinny person hiding under my skin.

  20. Hi - I'm a bit of a hoarder too and find it difficult to get rid of things. Have made a start though and my plan is to tackle it in stages and it seems to be working! I managed to drop a dress size last year by "fasting" on 600 calories one day a week and it worked for me and got me back into good habits again. Love the bird photos - very up close and personal!
