Spiralizing! My New Obsession.

A few months ago I gave away my pasta machine as it was too much of a faff to make gluten free pasta with, it ended up with lots of holes.  The dried gf pasta tastes fine but I wanted something healthy, fresh and quick, so I gave into temptation and bought a spiralizer.  Oh what fun!! From a plain courgette to courgetti in a flash.  O.K. I sound like an advert, but I love this machine!  I used it for the first time today and made a sort of courgetti bolognese.  So so simple!  Great if you are watching your carbs, and I'm sure children would eat it even if they don't usually like  courgette (zucchini to my American friends).  There are different blades that come with it for different shapes,  and you can use different veg.  There are lots of other things you can do with it so over the next few weeks I will be playing.   Here's my first attempt.

Place the veg onto the grip, and turn the handle, it's as simple as that.

Out of the other end comes very long courgetti, I used a scissors to cut it to shorter lengths to make it easier to eat.

I made a pasta sauce then added the courgetti for the last few minutes to warm it through but still with a little bite.  You could also cook the courgetti separately for a few minutes.  There are lots of different spiralizers, and of course I'm not being sponsored, I bought this one as I have their recipe book.  Now I've just got to find somewhere to keep it.

Welcome to Rosie on Bloglovin,

Have a good weekend everyone,

Chickpea xx

  1. This looks great - what a tasty looking meal! I was looking at these in the Lakeland catalogue a few days ago, I'd quite like a spiralizer myself, just for the fun of it! It might be good for Dave too as he's gluten free - he might enjoy courgetti in place of GF spaghetti!

  7. I have a hand held one. Kinda like a a pencil sharper. Two different sizes but that just fine for me.
Because it is small, very small I like it.
    Your dish looks wonderful.

    1. It is fab, so easy and quick and a good way to use up the umpteen courgettes I get in my veg box in the summer.

  13. What a fab little machine. The last kitchen aid I bought was a Mandolin after seeing Jamie Oliver put one to good use. It's so sharp it scares the living daylights out of me so I rarely use it.

  14. Oh now yours looks like a super posh machine! I bought a zoodlechef after my daughter kept sending me pictures of delicious salads she had made with hers - and it's fab! Of course courgettes are the favourite - flash fried with a little sesame oil and some mushrooms - mmmmm! Apparently you can do it with potatoes as well and make curly fries but I haven't tried that yet. I'll look forward to seeing what else you do with yours! Hope you're keeping nice and warm this rotten rainy Sunday x Jane

  18. Funnily enough I've just been reading about these in "Healthy" magazine - said to be the gadget for 2015! Would be brilliant for my "fasting" days but think I'll have to go for a smaller version like the zoodle chef as mentioned by Plain Jane above, due to space issues in our kitchen - looking forward to seeing what else you make with it!

  19. What a great idea! I saw someone making sweet potato spirals on another blog, but not courgette. I imagine that it tastes really good! xx

  22. These are brilliant aren't they. I just put one in my Amazon wishlist the other day, it's great to see one demonstrated. I usually have too many courgettes in the summer, this would be a perfect way to use them.
