Sugar Addicted Night Owl

The rescue services are always on-call

Every year I say this year is going to be different..........every year is the same.  I'm not even a 'sweet' person, more of a savoury type but damn it I can't walk past the pile of chocolates without shoving one or lets be honest, several into my mouth.  I have absolutely no will power I'm afraid, if they are there I will eat them.  I don't even buy them, the bearded one brings big tins of them home from work, gifts from well meaning people who have no consideration for my waistline.  While everyone is making new years resolutions to lose weight, get healthy, I know while the Xmas crap is still around the house I will eat it.   I have been trapped in the house because of the weather, watching rubbish television, eating rubbish and staying up until silly o'clock in the morning.  I feel rubbish because of it, I will be glad to get back to some sort of normality and really need to get back to some sort of sensible sleep pattern.  If left to my own devises I would be a night owl, I could stay up all night with no problem but when you have to get up and go to work in the morning it's not an option.   I'm back at work this week, I have the weekend to try to reset my sleep patterns eeeckkk!

Our Xmas tends to go on and on as we try to get everyone in the same place at the same time which was even trickier this year as sons partner was on call and got called in Xmas Day and Boxing Day. We eventually managed to get all four kids, their partners and the grandchildren under our roof on Monday which was lovely, there were bodies sleeping everywhere but that's what it's about.  Ziggy Stardust even joined in the fun, snuggling under the wrapping paper, she is easily pleased.

The weather was just too bad for our usual Xmas day walk on the beach but we ventured out on Boxing Day, which was dry but the wind nearly took me off my feet a couple of times and caused a sand storm, well ok slight exaggeration but it was bracing.  We are lucky to have a dry warm home to retreat to, I feel so sorry for the people whose houses are under water this year.  I'm no expert but if we didn't concrete over everything and cut down all the trees the land may be better able to cope with the deluge of water.

So have I got any New Years resolutions?  Well no I haven't got around to thinking of any.  Cut out sugar? That's not going to happen while the chocolate still lurks in the house.  Get fitter?  Not if its raining I'm afraid, I'm a fair weather exerciser.   I did think about going vegan for January, but I was given cheese making kits for Xmas so that isn't going to happen.  Be a more consistent blogger? Um, we will see.  I love reading about people who vow to stop buying 'stuff' for a year, eat only things they have grown, de-clutter, have no waste etc. The woman who runs the local food box posted a photo of herself swimming in the sea over Xmas without a wet suit, vowing to do this though out the year.  It all sounds rather exhausting I'm afraid, perhaps when I detox from the sugar overload I will have more energy and focus, so my New Years resolution might start in February.....or March if I can be arsed to even think of one.

Have any of you made a resolution?  My brain/typing fingers keep wanting to say/type New Years revolution.........mmmm now that's an idea :)

Right, must get back to searching for our new home in the country, I guess that is enough to be taking on this year.

  2. Similar chocolate problem here too! I think cutting out the sugar will have to wait until about mid January when all the chocs have been polished off! I contemplated a cheese making kit for R, but L talked me out of it - do let me know how it works out. Best wishes for 2016. xx

  4. No resolutions here, I am happy with my lifestyle, when I had the shop I always used to end up with lots of boxes of chocolates from customers, I used to donate them to OAP homes, I like chocolate but I have to fancy it to eat it, I still have chocolate from last year here that I am now using in cooking, I didnt buy in any sweets or chocolate this year but we got some as gifts along with biscuits they will take us a long time to use up.

    1. I'm afraid if they are in the house I have to eat them, I was always the same. My brother used to eat his xmas chocolates one at a time, he would eat it in front of me just to tease me as of course I had eaten all of mine. The torture went on for weeks!

  5. I know what you mean about sleep patterns over Christmas - we seem to stay up a bit later every day here, meaning that we're getting up later too. We'll be nocturnal soon (my teenagers almost are)! As you say, back to some normality next week, and the same goes for the junk food too. Your beach photos are gorgeous and very dramatic, and make me want to head for Cornwall again. Happy New year to you!

    1. Why do we do it to ourselves? I always feel worse for all the indulgence. Can't wait to find the house and get started now!

  8. No resolutions this year, apart from not apologising for the mess in our house. I love the Christmas period for exactly the wrong reasons, eating lots of sugar and cheese, staying up through the night and doing very little. Life is busy throughout the year, why not be a lazy glutton for a short period? Having said that, I am glad to go back to work for a bit of a change. I am glad you got to see your family, it is nice to catch up I find. Wishing you a Happy New Year.

  9. Late nights sugars overdose as chocolate things throw themselves at me as I walk by, yes I can relate to that, we have a dry February and a detox, not point in January, and I agree who wants to walk in the rain when we have a snug warm home.

  12. What beautiful beaches you have near you, I bet they get busy in the Summer! I read recently about having a list of intentions rather than resolutions I liked that idea.......hope your year brings what you want it to :)

    1. Yes we are very lucky. Intentions sound good, it makes it sound more 'do-able'

  13. I could have written this post. It's twenty to three and I'm wide awake blog reading having done not a lot, snoozed, eaten chocolate and now I'm wide awake. I will now wake up late and and bemoan the fact that we have hardly any Sunday left! Happy 2016 from one night owl to another x

  17. Hi - happy new year and glad you managed a day with everyone together under the same roof. Love the photo of Ziggy. I've been feeling pretty lethargic the past 4 days and you've pinpointed all the reasons why - but I'm sure getting back to normal routines will bring energy levels and sleep patterns back under control. I thought I would start doing 10 - 15 mins of yoga daily this year, to help with my energy levels and stiff joints - we're 3 days in and not a single yoga pose managed yet!!

    1. haha that made me laugh, never mind perhaps day 4 will bring a downward facing dog pose.....I had to google yoga poses, is that one for real?

  18. Hey Chickpea,
I always thought that the whole point of a resolution was to break it ;) Yes I need to lose weight. Yes I need to get more fit. Yes I need to de-clutter. But I know that if I resolve to, I end up sabotaging it. I've decided to go with just one word; 'balance.' I know it's a bit lame and rather a cop out, but I figure this way I still get to eat chocolate.
Thanks for your words of support over on my blog. It was very much appreciated.

  19. I have the same problem with chocolates, except that I am a chocoholic but control it until Christmas eve, then like you I walk past the tin and put one in my mouth and a couple in a pocket!! All that we have left now is a few savoury crackers. Still not back to sensible bed time though! Ziggy Stardust is gorgeous. Happy new year.

  20. You have made me laugh so much with your resolutions as I feel much the same... Sluggish and lethargic from too much sugar etc, but unable to do a thing about it until it's gone from the house. I did manage a swim this morning but I'm quite sure it is a one off and it was in a warm indoor pool!
