We have moved!!

Looking across our field to the purple heather covered moor.

After many stressful weeks, many moments thinking it wasn't going to happen at all and then exchange and completion happening within four days we are at last in our new home!!  The problems with buying it had taken away some of the excitement and I just couldn't look forward as so many things had gone wrong.  I am now pinching myself as I can't quite believe  this beautiful place is ours.  We have an awful lot of work to do as it has been neglected, we will take our time and work on it over the next few years, but I have totally fallen in love with it. I feel like I have been here for months not days, it really feels like home.  I love the peace, the space, the big skies, it house been worth every stressful minute.

Here's a little taster of our new home.  Our internet isn't great and as you can imagine I have an awful lot of unpacking to do but will be back again with some more updates.

Where we spend most of our time looking out at the view

Looking across our garden to our neighbours munching away in their field

Orchard, fruit trees and an overgrown polytunnel

The polytunnel and garden have been neglected and are very overgrown and full of weeds.  I have no idea how to look after the grapes and kiwis but they seem to have thrived on neglect.

I have a purple Aga!!  Those tiles will have to go.

My first meal cooked in the Aga, chickpea casserole of course.

After living in a valley for many years, I love the big skies I can see from our hill

Chickpea xx

  7. Well done on your move. Not sure I would get much done with that fabulous view. As for your kiwis they need to be picked after the first frost. Evidently they don't taste right according to my friend if you have them before! B x

  21. Oh WOW!!! That is the best blog-heading I have seen in a long time! So pleased to know that you are finally IN! I have experienced the awful delays and problems that house-buying entails but I also know that the final move is worth all the hassle. I hope you have many happy years together in this lovely house and in the meantime, enjoy making it your home. Is that Dartmoor or Bodmin Moor in the background? Gorgeous views!

    1. Not Bodmin or Dartmoor, just a little area of moorland covered in beautiful heather.

  23. It is lovely - the view is breathtaking. I'm so happy for you. We too, moved this year and we have much to do also. It's been so very hot and humid, so much of the outdoor work has been somewhat restricted. (the mosquitoes almost carry you away - I have many itchy bites) Hopeful to accomplish more when Fall gets here. Time and money - never enough of either, it seems, but I am so happy to be here and I am so happy you are in your new home as well. Congrats and I hope it proves to be everything you want and dream it to be. Ranee (MN)USA

  29. Fantastic news and it looks like a beautiful home too!

Our house buying adventures have gone horribly wrong... all the excitement wore off with out property and the ongoing dispute and after 5 months, things were not getting any further forward with a resolution and we'd seen another potential house so we pulled out, had an offer accepted on a second house we loved and thought things were working out, then the vendors at the 2nd house decided they didn't want to sell after all and took it off the market! It's so frustrating and depressing! Back to the drawing board for us now, just keeping an eye open for a suitable house again, there's nothing for us at the moment sadly.

  34. Brilliant news, I hope you have many good times ahead of you making this your perfect forever home.

Give the polytunnel a couple of months and the jungle will die down for winter and you will be able to get some drastic pruning done and reclaim a bit of space for Winter vegetable growing.
