Fretting in the early hours.

Some very old threads found in mums sewing box

I'm afraid I have neglected you all somewhat over the last week, I didn't even manage a Five on Friday!  We have been busy with family things which have been lovely, a trip to Somerset to look after our gorgeous grandchildren, followed by our sons birthday which involved a meal and family  trip to the cinema.  It was the same evening as the Eurovision Song Contest, but I think Mad Max was probably just as bonkers so we didn't miss anything.  The rest of the time has been spent sorting out the craft room/spare bedroom.  Two days and it still looks just as bad, I walked in there this morning and my heart sank, how the hell did I manage to cram so much stuff in there.  I save everything, and I mean everything because I recycle everything I possibly can.  It usually ends up in a quilt, or future rag rugs but oh boy, I may have to re-think my hoarding habits.

Lots of mums old buttons

I'm thinking of painting her sewing box

It has been interesting finding all the unfinished projects and future projects but frustrating as well because I just don't have the time to work on them.  It was lovely to sort through my mums old sewing box crammed full with threads and a little sewing box which I was given, probably in the hope that I would take an interest in sewing which sadly I didn't until after my mother had died.  I even found some more of the fabric I brought back from Australia.  I thought I had used every scrap of it but this must have got separated from the rest in the total chaos of the craft room.  A lesson on keeping things organised me thinks.

Thank you for all the lovely comment on my last post regarding the interest in our house.  They didn't actually see inside the house otherwise they would have run screaming down the path!  There is just so much to do, I keep finding more every time I look.  Yes we could put it on the market as it is, well after tidying up, but I need to get as good a price as possible to fund our next move.  New throws and rugs from Ikea have been ordered to cover our very shabby sofas and replace the grubby mats covered in cat vomit stains.  They will all go with us so the money won't be wasted.

Oh dear, I am becoming a 'house moving' bore, but it is all consuming.  I promise I will try to find the time to post something more interesting soon. My other time consuming stress factor is that  I  need to change my car to something a  bigger so we can fit in three grandchildren and their seats.  My mini is just too much of a squeeze, especially having three doors so involves climbing in and out of the front, but I LOVE my mini.  After having 'family' cars when our kids were growing up it was wonderful to get a 'me' car.  Now I'm  going to have to be sensible again, but just can't find anything else I like, or when I do it is out of my price range.   3 o'clock this morning I was sitting in the lounge fretting about cars and houses, how stupid is that.  I'm lucky to have a roof over my head and a car to drive, all the terrible things going on in the world and I'm stressing over 1st world problems.  I need to get a grip, but insomnia does mess with your mind.  In the early hours everything seems a 100 times worse than it actually is, or is it just me that feels that way?

Anyway, I'm off to pick some spinach from the garden to make a spinach and goats cheese quiche. with some very small home grown potatoes.  Life IS good :)

Have a good week lovely bloggy people :)

Chickpea xx

  1. Ok, this might seem harsh, but please stop beating yourself up!!! Yes, these are probably first world problems, but they are problems to you none the less and unless you are hiding the fact that you know the secret to world peace, can solve all poverty and cure all ills then there is nothing you can do about those things, so your problems are your problems and there is nothing wrong with worrying about them!!!!!! Sorry to be bossy, but you cannot help how you feel so don't apologise for being stressed. Moving house is a massive thing for anyone and although I don't of course know your actual situation I sense that it is very hard for you to be leaving this house and that is perfectly normal too!!! Don't add to your worry by worrying about worrying! Just get on and worry if that is what you need to do. It will all come out in the end, it always does one way or the other. Says me the greatest worrier of them all. I am not trying to be mean or bossy, just to say that I totally understand that you are stressed and that it is totally OK to feel that way. I wish that I could come and help in some way, but I am a real chucker so that would not be any use to you. Instead I am sending love and hugs and all good thoughts to you!!!!!! I hope you don't think I am being horrid I'm not, totally on your side about being stressed. Hugs!!!! xx

    1. Oh Amy, I don't think you are being bossy or horrid, thank for your wise words they are much appreciated. I'm just trying to do too much on no sleep at the moment, not a good combination. I will be back to my usual self soon hopefully. xx

  2. We sold our family home 5 years ago and it was hard, but it was the best thing we have ever done, firstly, I no longer have to clean rooms not used, our house is almost half the size but, we chose well, we use all the space, it works well on family days, OK our kitchen is small, but less to clean. Our family house became a mill stone, with memories and children's things, this house is ours, it's grown up, and because we do not have too much space we gave our girls loads of their stuff from our attic, which they loved having again. So try and sleep and think of your space to come.

  3. Please keep posting about your move it might help you with think things out.
I have moved so many times it has become routine.
The two last moves were because of a wildfire that destroyed my home and my divorce.
I got rid of lots of things. Parred way down. I mean how many sets of dishes do you really need.
No impulse buying. Plan what I need to buy and that all.
My home is so easy to keep clean now.
But like you my studio is packed with supplies I am getting better at going through and tosses dried-up half used supplies.

I love your jars of your Mothers buttons. Very lovely.
    cheers, parsnip

    1. Thank you parsnip. How awful for you to lose your homes through such horrible circumstances. The home you have now with your little dogs looks beautiful xx

  4. I can sympathise with how much "stuff' can be in one room! I decided to tidy and sort the conservatory today (I am going to have to move as my husband has left) and intend to do a bit at a time as I won't be able to do it all myself in one go. But goodness - how does it all fit in! Any why has it been kept? Still, it is much cleaner and tidier in there now, and I even have my own crochet corner! (Throws also over chairs covering cat sick stains! ) x

  5. I must have been sleepless in sympathy last night , Chickpea, but I think it was actually this Cornish cold that DH decided to share with me :-\ Do try not to stress about moving house. We downsized 5 years ago and although it was hard at the time it was the best thing we did. We used the released cash to buy our motorhome (which we have now swapped for our caravan....fickle!) but are now mortgage free and by being careful with finances are having some 'together time' at last. Do please tell us how your plans are going. Your posts are brilliant x

  11. We're moving house soon too and overtime I go into a room I think to myself about how much stuff I have. Yes, it's a silly thing to worry about but that doesn't mean we shouldn't think about it; it's a task that needs to be sorted - that's all. Look on it as no more than that - don't feel guilty about it. And anyway, anything you don't want - no matter what it is - can be donated to a charity shop which means you are actually doing something positive - raising money for a charity. Don't worry - I'm facing the same challenges too as I am sure many other people are.

I love your mum's sewing box - my mum used to have one of those too! All the best, Judy.

  12. Thank you for your visit. I loved the buttons, I am a buttonolic OK that's not a real word but I love buttons and have a vast collection so it was wonderful to see your Mums buttons and displayed brilliantly. I have exactly the same sewing box. Hope you are not too stressed, moving can be very stressful, do things in small chunks.

  13. Probably, your mistake is to have a dedicated craft room - my sewing/ knitting stuff is spread out around three rooms and therefore manages to fool my husband into thinking there's less of it than there actually is :o) I'd LOVE a craft room - keep threatening to turn eldest daughter's bedroom into one as soon as she's at uni...

    1. I'm afraid mine has managed to break out of the craft room and spread all over the house as well :)

  14. If it makes you feel any better, our spare bedroom (which doesn't even have a bed in it now, to make room for the other stuff!) is now my craft room hoarded with loads of materials for new projects - I have no shortage of ideas but not a lot of spare time so things happen very slowly, which is frustrating. I also have a lot of things that belonged to my dear mum which I am slowly "re-purposing". We too are thinking of a house move but can't even begin to do the "tarting up" side of things yet until we've done some serious decluttering, so I'm finding your thoughts on the matter quite inspirational as I'm several steps behind you on this one!

  15. Hi Coco Jayne, glad to hear someone else has a spare room full of 'to do' projects. Oh dear, my thoughts on the matter at the moment are all moaning and groaning :)

  16. I love sorting through things I've kept for crafting with. It can be depressing, as you say, when you realise you just don't have time to make everything you want to, but it can also be fun, finding things you've squirreled away and forgotten about. I think, anyway. Good luck with the sorting!
