Spending Sprees, Theatre Tickets and Weight Loss Clothes!

Lots of people are doing the Stoptober challenge, but I have probably saved a fortune over the last few weeks because I haven't been able to go anywhere.  Yesterday was my first 'shopping' trip for a long time.  My friend picked me up and we headed to Hobby Craft.  That place is dangerous!   I was very restrained, I picked up some fat quarters which were half price.  But did change my mind and put them back.  It is only a bargain if you actually needed to buy the things in the first place.  As I have a whole room of bits of fabric, they really weren't needed.  I did however find a set of printing blocks which I will get a lot of use out of.  I could have spent all day in there.  I am like a kid in a candy shop :)

We headed back into town and I found these beautiful tins.  I will use the lentils and paprika  so it is a practical buy and not just an indulgence.......honest :)

I really enjoyed the trip and felt a little bit more like my old self until I got home.  I was so exhausted I went to bed! Oh my god, I'm taking nanny naps lol.  I'm back to work in a couple of weeks.  I really need to get my self sorted.  I remember from last year, when I first went back to work I would come home and go to bed.  For several weeks all I did was work and go to bed!!  Life and soul of the party......not.

I also need to get back to plans for doing up the house to sell.  Yes I am restricted to what I can do at the moment, but I could be doing little things.  It is a case of getting my arse in gear.  I have been lying around on the sofa for weeks now and have gotten used to it.  I think I have become used to being a couch potato.

Brief Encounter - Kneehigh

It is exciting to start making plans again, my life has been on hold for ages while I waited for the operation date and the long recovery.  This morning I booked some tickets to go and see The Dead of Night Dance by the Rogue Theatre http://roguetheatre.co.uk It looks great fun, wondering through the  woods in the dark on Halloween.  I love local theatre groups, the more unconventional the better.  We are very lucky to have one of the best in the country based in Cornwall.  It you get a chance to see Kneehigh, go!  I saw their version of Brief Encounter a few years ago.  It was stunning.  I think it also played on Broadway.  Talking of Broadway it reminds me of when I saw a show on Broadway, it was Phantom of the Opera, not really my thing.  I slept through most of it!  What can I say, jet lag, it was hot I was tired.  Not my finest moment hehe.

In the newspaper yesterday was an article about customers getting their money back after buying bras, girdles and leggings infused with caffeine to aid weight loss and reduce cellulite.  Seriously people, did you really think this would work?  What are the most ridiculous claims you have seen for losing weight?

All the headlines on the newspapers were about the tax cuts woohoo!!  The tax threshold would be raised to £12,500.  Oh wait....... not until 2020. Just in time for me to retire.

I hope you are all well,

Chickpea xx

  5. I just went back several pages and am enjoying your blog.
I am so happy to hear you are doing so much better.
The plant in the green house (as for as I can see) is a very old Prickly Pear cactus that was left to grow and not cut back.
Love the beautiful village especially with superman sighting !

    cheers, parsnip

  8. To everyone who liked the tins, I bought them in M&S. The pimento tin was £2 and the puy lentil tin was £5. I had my eye on some others in there as well :)

  10. I think the stamp set is wonderful, just right for personalising cards and gifts, so a saving really:) I think the increase in tax allowance is brilliant even if we have to wait a while, It doesn't seem that long ago it was only 4.5k, and now its 10k. If people can earn more money to keep then they claim less benefits which saves in admin costs in the long run and is better for people as they're earning the extra rather than claiming it back.

  11. 2020? Is that so that they don't actually have to implement it during the next parliament?
Glad you are feeling well enough to get out a bit. I went to Hobbycraft last Saturday. I must be very restrained because I only bought the 4 pieces of felt that I went in for and didn't even look at anything else!

  13. Hi Jean, yes I was thinking of Xmas cards when I bought the stamp set. I'll experiment with a bit of fabric printing as well :)

  14. Good sound bite though wasn't it Scarlett. They can promise all sorts if you don't know if you are actually going to be in government. It would help a lot of people if one of the parties put it in place.

  15. Hi Chickpea, thanks for popping over and leaving a comment on my blog - I'm afraid I've only just seen it as I start putting together the next post!

I too am a fan of those tins but I don't think you'd get a packet of lentils in there! And reading your older posts I see you are a fan of quinoa - likewise; I often do a foodie blog-post but not recently , must get myself organised! Thanks again, and do pop back.
(By the way I am so glad you are doing so well, I have several friends in similar circumstances. ) L xx

  17. Hi Just found your blog and I'm enjoying reading through it. Caffeine girdles - genius I want one immediately! Glad to hear you are on the journey back to full health. There's nothing wrong with the odd 'nanny nap' so long as your mouth doesn't hang open and you start dribbling! (I'm hoping fellow passengers on the National Express coach to London last month didn't notice me anyway). look forward to reading more of your posts : )
