I have a confession to make

When I tell people, they look at me as if I am completely mad, but here goes I'm telling blog world anyway (don't hate me for it) but I can't stand Wimbledon.  There I have said it.  I hate everything about it, especially people going on about it.  O.K. I can feel your anger, but I really cannot stand it.  Perhaps it goes back to my school days when we were forced to sit in the hot and stuffy hall to watch it on the television instead of our usual P.E. lesson, because the teachers wanted to watch it.   Though I never liked playing any sport either,  but at least we were outside.  I'm going to have to grit my teeth over the next couple of weeks when people ask me if I have been watching it.  Noooooooooooo!!!

To be fair, I don't like watching any other sport on the television either, which is a bit difficult in a sport mad household.  I could name a lot of the players in Manchester United, even though I try to avoid it when it is on.  Apparently you really have to have it on full volume, have snacks and beer and jump around the room.  Go figure.  I also know the names of the Grand Prix drivers, England Rugby and Cricket players and lots of other useless information about sport.  Oh well it comes in handy when we play Trivial Pursuit.

However........even though I don't like watching sport on the television, I do enjoy actually going to see the sport.  I Mexican waved with the best of them at Wembley when England were playing some obscure country.  Though there was an audible gasp when I asked who a certain player was, well we were a long way from the pitch so I can't really be blamed for failing to recognise David Beckam.

I get bored watching the Grand Prix on the television but when we were in Abu Dhabi watching it, the noise and smell and sheer excitement were contagious.  The beautiful weather helped of course, it probably wouldn't be the same watching it in this country in the rain!  Oh and the Eminem concert afterwards helped.  You never know, if I ever go to Wimbledon I may actually enjoy it, especially the Pimms and Strawberries.

Oh well each to their own, I probably bore people about watching Glasto,  ( a music festival to overseas readers ) sadly I missed most of it this year due to family commitments but will spend the next couple of weeks catching up on it while everyone else is watching Wimbledon.  "Did you see Andy Murrey playing?" I will be asked, "No but did you see Patti Smith at Glasto?" I will reply and tut in disgust when they say no.

So, do any of you want to join me in confessing or am I the only one who switches off when the tennis comes on?

News on the trees is that they were not cut down by the Council so it appears that they have been cut down by a private landowner.  They had a tree preservation order on them so now they will need to find out if they had applied for permission to do this.  I hope they find whoever did this and fine them, though it is too late for the trees now.

I am stupidly busy at work at the moment, I am working extra hours to cover for a colleague who is on sick leave.  I could really do without it at the moment, but it is only fair I help out as so many of my colleagues covered for me when I was off on my very long sick leave over the last couple of years.  It does mean that not much is being done decorating wise.  At this rate the house won't be on the market until next year!!

I will leave you with a little Glasto.  I first saw this band when they were playing in a little venue in Cornwall as a support act.  Now they are playing Glasto!  I love how they seem so thrilled to be there and a little overwhelmed.  Whoops, am I boring you with my Glasto talk :)

Welcome to the new followers, I am always amazed that people want to read my ramblings, but you are all very welcome.

  4. Oh hurrah! I'm not alone. I get tired of the funny looks I get when I say I don't watch it. What a dreadful shame about those trees. Try not to work too hard. X

  5. Hate Wimbledon hate football hate cricket hate rugby hate Grand Prix and any other sport out there that turns people into lunatics, sport should be a leisure activity not a profession that gets paid stupid amounts of money makes the news and become celebrity's, I am happy we are a sport free house although Martin might sometimes watch a bit of late night boxing. It should all be put on one TV channel and stay out of the news. :-)

  6. Wimbledon is not for me either. I get bored stiff just thinking about tennis. I don't watch sports on the telly except cycling (which is on anyway). Enjoy Glastonbury. x

  7. I can't say I hate Wimbledon - it just never occurs to me to switch on the telly! Neither do I switch t on for any other sports but I don't put it on for Glastonbury either. I'm a fully paid up Grumpy Old Woman.

  10. I am in the Grumpy Old Woman category too I am afraid. Not a sports lover or a Glastonbury fan, in fact if I am honest I don't have the TV on very often at all. We are very selective and only switch on what we want to watch. We have the radio on for background noise.

  11. I don't like watching sport on tv either unless its the cycling (especially Tour de France) - it combines sport with changing scenery, so I think that helps. I agree though, it can be a completely different atmosphere if there in person. I'm happy to watch Glasto on tv - you don't have to queue for the loos!!

  12. I LOVE wimbledon! But can see that it must be a pretty tiresome fortnight if you don't (which is what I feel when the bloody football is on everywhere all the time) :o) x

  13. I love tennis, sorry and spent a couple of hours on Friday night caught up in the Glastonbury traffic, does that count.

  14. I'm not a sport fan. I don't understand why the news covers it. It's not news. It's some people's hobby. Mr Him only a fan of rugby and that requires gutteral shouting and some sort of fist action making his arm a right angle at the elbow and raising it. Beer involved too.

  15. When I could stand, walk and run I loved to play tennis. So watching it was fun.
Loved horse racing both at the track and on TV.
But I love Baseball. and had season tickets when I lived in California. But I don't watch it on TV.
    Go figure.
But when I visit family in Japan..... Baseball and soccer is just way to much fun not to go and see.
Oh My Goodness I love Anna comment.

    cheers, parsnip

  16. I don't like sport - rubbish at playing it, don't enjoy watching it and have adopted the tactic of falling asleep when it's on. My husband is a sports fanatic. Both playing and watching. Unfortunately I don't like Glastonbury either!!

  17. We rarely watch sports on TV. Pretty much just the Super Bowl in February, but that's more for the advertisements than for the actual football game. :)

  18. Hi I am visiting with you for the first time having popped over from Laura's Circle of pine Trees blog. I loved your post about Wimbledon but I have to confess I am a fan and will want to know who in and who's out and will Murray get to the final this year but I also would have liked to have watched Glasto this year but missed most of it but will try and catch up on my favourites. You have some lovely photo's to share and I will be back to check what you have been up to in sunny Cornwall...

  19. No, I am not a TV sports fan either!!! Seeing almost anything - music concert, sports, play etc - in person is totally different than watching it on TV. We don't really watch any sport on TV. We might watch a little of the final of something like Wimbledon on some things when it is the Olympics, but really we watch very little and mostly I sit and read or crochet or something else while it is on!! So, no need to apologise to me! I would have watched Glasto too, but didn't have chance! Shame! Shame too about the trees, hope they can sort it out as best as they can. xx

  20. We both agree with you about the tennis, what has really annoyed us is the fact it's on both BBC1 and 2 so we don't get eggheads during Wimbledon.
