The beans have their first signs of flowers on them
and the sweetcorn look healthy, but I don't actually know how the actual corn grows, (did I just admit that) so I don't know what to look for. I think it might be useful if I actually read up about growing things rather than just sticking things into the ground and hoping for the best.
Then I did a bit more to the blinds, I probably should have bought some white tape, but it won't be seen anyway.
My weekly veg box delivery has been overflowing with carrots lately, and along with my huge crop of carrots ( ok my few tiny carrots) we're getting a bit fed up with them. I thought I would make some carrot and coriander soup to put in the freezer for when the weather is more like 'soup weather'
I also had an ECG done today in preparation for my operation. I'm happy to report that yes I have a heart. :)
Chickpea xx
Oh blinds, did you use a kit or buy the bits. I have lots to make.
ReplyDeleteHi Froogs, no I don't buy a kit, I buy the tape, cords, and plastic rods ect. I sew velcro on the top and screw a piece of wood to the top of the window recess with velcro stapled onto it and attach the blind with velcro so they can be easily taken down for washing. I also use a thin piece of wood from the diy store for the weight at the bottom. You can't see the wood once the blind is up. Cheap and cheerful :) Good luck x
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have the faintest clue about how to make blinds, clever stuff! I can tell you about sweetcorn. the cobs will grow - hopefully one or two per plant - from where the leaves join the stem. You will see them if they get going in time! They have tassels on the ends and when the tassles go brown and look dead thats when the cob is ready. I will post pics when it happens here - remind me later.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to know that you do have a heart! I assumed that you did because you are so nice. xx
ReplyDeleteI am pleased to hear you have a heart :-)
ReplyDeleteyour veg is coming on great and looks nice and healthy, if you attempt carrots in a container again run some copper tape around the container slugs dont like to cross it, it gives them a shock I got mine from poundland and was very pleased with the results.
The carrots look lovely. How exciting growing sweetcorn. I didn't even know how the flowers on a tomato became tomatoes. Kept watching avidly.
ReplyDeleteVery clever making your own blinds.x
Thanks for the sweetcorn lesson Sue, I will keep looking where you said x

Your carrots are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Carrot and ginger sounds nice Isabelle, I will try that next time x
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue :) Carrot and coriander is a favourite with my family and so cheap to make. I started by making one set of blinds for eldest son who had funny shaped windows, then other son wanted some for his home, and now I am working my way through our home! Just basic ones but they do the job x
ReplyDeleteThank you Jody and welcome :)
ReplyDeleteDo you like red lentils? Google "BBC lentil carrot soup" and you should be able to find a recipe I saw on a blog about a year ago which was really good. I make it fairly often because it's cheap and healthy!
ReplyDeleteI love red lentils Jennifer! I often chuck a handful into soups, curries and stews. I used to make lentil lasagna when my sons lived at home. I think their friends used to think we were weird lol. I will try to find that recipe and give it a go. x
ReplyDeleteI was going to leave a comment about the sweet corn but I see that Sue has already told you where to look. I didn't have a clue the first time I grew them either but it does become obvious once they start to fruit. And they are so delicious picked fresh,
