Be Careful What You Wish For
I laughingly said before my operation that it would be good if they put in a mesh that covered my whole abdomen so it would be like an inbuilt girdle.
Well unfortunately I sort of got what I wished for. I was expecting to have one hernia fixed, and the surgeon draw a little circle on my tummy to show them where to operate. When they actually looked I had two big hernias and lots of little ones along the scar. In the words of the surgeon they put in the biggest mesh they had and lots of screws so hopefully everything will hold this time. I feel like the bionic woman. I did ask if I would be setting off x ray machines in airports, but apparently not. The surgeon even gave me a photo to take home. It is very strange seeing your insides!
Thank you all for your messages of support, I will be trying to catch up with all your lovely blogs, I'm just a bit reliant on pain killers at the moment. They make me feel a bit spaced out when I take them so I will be posting nonsense, and when they wear off I'm in pain so will be moaning about everything. Oh joy!
OH has forgotten how to use the oven, washing machine etc since last year so I am sitting here issuing orders like Queen Chickpea. I have already started on my supply of carrot soup made a few weeks ago. Being vain, I weighed myself thinking I would have lost weight as I hadn't eaten for several days, and I have put on weight! How the hell does that happen?? OH assures me it isn't the mesh and screws that are heavy!
I hope you are all well and having a lovely weekend. I have managed at last to finish Cloud Atlas and also read Hovel in the Hills while I was in hospital. I can see why some of you have said this book changed your lives. I think I will try a bit of crochet later.
Well, I am sitting here on my sofa looking out at the trees. I am so glad to be home :)
Chickpea xx

ReplyDeleteDon't worry about the weight gain it will be the extra heavy screws and mesh ;)
ReplyDeleteLook after yourself my lovely x
You poor soul, chickpea, but you are home now. Just take it easy. DH had a mesh put in several years ago and he is fine but I didn't realise they put in screws too :-\ Get well soon x
ReplyDeleteI've just been catching up on your blog and I'm really sorry to hear about this latest development. I'm so glad you're home now, though. I hope you're able to get lots of rest. I'm sure you'll be back on your feet soon. Take care and enjoy your queendom. :)

I'm glad to hear that you are home again, sorry though that it was obviously a lot more than you expected. I hope that your recovery will be swift and good. I reckon that any weight gain has to be blamed on the mesh and the screws - they must weigh pounds and pounds!! Take care of yourself, enjoy the soup and all the other things that you have planned to keep you occupied as much as you can. xx
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are at home, recovering, and I hope that you won't have to rely on the painkillers for too long, it is not nice to feel spaced out. Look after yourself. Cx
ReplyDeleteI think you deserve to be Queen Chickpea after all this! Goodness, I hope you are better and mobile soon. Lots of love to your there xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your best wishes, you are all so kind I will remember you in my New Years Honours List. :)
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow sofa rester at the moment, I hope you are up and fit as quick as you can be.
ReplyDeleteI hate having to tell( suggest) things that need doing ,but it's the only way
Glad to hear you are home and healing. Surgery causes a lot of inflammation to the body and you will be retaining lots of water for the wounds to heal. It's to be expected. Take care of yourself, Tammy
ReplyDeleteGood.to hear you are home. They must have been really heavy screws and mesh!
