My Dad

Today is Fathers Day.  I will shed a few tears for the wonderful dad who is not with me anymore, but I will also smile remembering the happy times.  All through my life I felt loved by him, and I loved him.  He worked incredibly hard to provide for us, he worked all hours and would come home tired but always had time for his children.  I remember when he read Black Beauty to me, I would put the sheets over my head at the sad parts and cry, but it gave me a love of reading and animals which I still have today.  We didn't have much money, but my childhood was filled with fun and love.  Many happy days spent in the chalet at Gwithian my dad built with his own hands.

In the summer holidays when my mum was working I went to work with my dad.  He was an electrician and worked on building sites wiring up new houses.  Our first job on any new site would be to find some bits of wood lying around and make a bench for me to sit on and put our sandwiches and the flask on.  I would help him by climbing though the roof spaces and threading the electric cables down through the holes.  Health and Safety obviously didn't exist then!

He was also a wonderful Grandfather and adored all his Grandchildren.   He is much missed.

He held me when I first came into to this world, I held him as he left this world.

  7. I so enjoyed reading about your lovely Dad. My Dad gave me my love of reading and I can hardly see the words Black Beauty without wanting to cry at the memory. Jan B. Suffolk.

  8. Thank you Jan, the love of reading is such a special gift to pass on to your children.

I haven't even been to see War Horse as I'm sure I would be sobbing very loudly in the theatre.
